Who we are
The Manhasset School Retirees (MSR) Chapter of the Manhasset Education Association (MEA) is an inclusive, dedicated organization committed to serving, protecting, and connecting retired staff from the Manhasset Public School District.
Governed by the constitution and by-laws of the MEA, MSR promotes the educational and professional aims of its local chapter and its state and national affiliates, including NYSUT (Election District 19, Chapter #19-055) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
MSR works with active local organizations—including the MEA, the Manhasset Educational Support Personnel Association (MESPA), and the Manhasset Administrators and Supervisors Association (MASA)—to support district staff as they plan for retirement and to advocate for the educational interests of Manhasset’s students and community.
Advocacy and member benefits
MSR is an advocate and support network for a growing community of more than 360 members.
Membership is open to all retired district staff through annual dues and provides equal rights, voting privileges, and leadership opportunities without discrimination. MSR works to protect Social Security benefits and medical coverage, and serves as a liaison to the Manhasset School District Central Office for Medicare reimbursements and healthcare contributions.
Maintaining active local MSR membership also allows retirees to sustain important NYSUT benefits, including legal services, life insurance, and catastrophic health coverage.
Staying informed and connected
Beyond advocacy and administrative support, MSR is dedicated to maintaining strong social bonds and keeping its community informed.
Members stay connected through email updates, regular newsletters featuring health tips and colleague news, and this website, which provides convenient access to district guidelines, updates, and archives.
MSR’s cherished social traditions include the Welcome Back Breakfast, Winter Luncheon, Spring Trivia Dinner, group excursions, and Broadway trips. Together, these efforts keep retirees’ collective voice strong, protect their rights, and sustain their lifelong connection to the Manhasset school community.
